Puppy Adopt: Best Places To Adopt A Puppy

  • One of the greatest places to adopt a puppy is at your local puppy adoption center. The cost is low and the puppy selection can't be beat!

One of the best places to adopt a puppy for free is to visit a puppy adoption center for your next pet. Assuming you qualify, you will adopt your new puppy at a ridiculously low cost, or more likely than not, for free. Most puppy adoption centers solicit donations from those individuals adopting a puppy, but the contribution is not mandatory.

The upside of adopting from the center is that you are helping some poor little puppy get a second chance to find a loving home. Just think of how happy that little pup will be if you take it out of the puppy adoption center and bring him home.

Although adopting a puppy is a good idea, you should be extra careful when it comes to selecting puppies at the puppy adoption center. Bear in mind that most dogs that are rescued have gone through a lot of bad experiences in the past which made then wary about trusting people, especially strangers like you.

However, almost all of the puppies at these centers have not been mistreated and were dropped off by people who do not know or want to deal with a litter of puppies. Of course, to ensure that your chosen puppy is healthy, you will want to have the puppy examined by a vet to verify the health of your new puppy.

Below is a list of items that you should do before making the final decision on the puppy at the puppy adoption center:

Review The Medical Records of the Puppy

Before you decide to adopt a puppy, ask for medical records of that puppy first. Most puppy adoption centers keep medical records of the puppies that they have rescued. Just ask the puppy adoption center records officer for the records of the puppy that you want to adopt so that you can study it thoroughly. You may also ask the veterinarian who examined the puppy about the condition of the puppy. Know everything there is to know about the medical condition of the puppy before you ping it home. You don't want to be caught off guard when it comes to your pet's health.

Observe The Puppy's Temperament

The truth of the matter is that some puppies are grumpy and some are not. They are just like kids, some are a little testy and some are very passive. Be sure to check out the temperament of your puppy candidates, you really don't want to be saddled with the "Tasmanian Devil". You can check a puppy's "attitude" by rolling him on his back and rub his tummy to determine if the puppy likes to be touched.

Another method for testing the puppy is to play with the puppy's ears. Give them a tug and a squeeze, but not hard, and see how the puppy responds. If the pup growls when you touch its ears, you might be better off checking out the other candidates, unless you believe that a little extra TLC and positive environment will mellow the little fellow out. Either way, we think that you will find that the puppy adoption center is one of the best places to adopt a puppy and rescue a puppy in need.
